Gatwick Area Conservation Campaign (GACC) said, “A new runway used to full capacity would cause substantial environmental damage to all the towns and villages for many miles around Gatwick.[i] In addition to the usual issues of noise, pollution and climate change, one of the emerging concerns is that making Gatwick larger than Heathrow would lead to the urbanisation of much of Surrey and Sussex.”

Lib Dem Cabinet Minister and MP for Kingston, Ed Davey said, “We will not endorse an expansion in airport capacity which would increase noise pollution for the hundreds of thousands of residents living beneath the flight path or break the Committee on Climate Change’s recommendations on aviation.”
Leader of the Liberal Democrats on Surrey County Council, Hazel Watson, said, ““Liberal Democrats are opposed to any expansion of airports in the South East, further expansion of Heathrow or Gatwick would be a devastating blow for Surrey’s environment and many of Surrey’s residents.”
