Mole Valley District Council’s Green Belt review looks set to be dropped following a recent debate on a motion to stop it. The motion itself was withdrawn but the Executive member responsible indicated that he was minded to cease work on it, saying “the potential requirement for Green Belt land appeared to be less than had been previously thought.” You can read the full statement here.
Is this the end of proposals to develop land in the Green Belt? Probably not. The need for housing for local people has not gone away and whilst some more sites on previously used land may be found, this still might not be enough. However, it is clear that the Council is now very reluctant to impose Green Belt development on unwilling communities and is looking for a more consensual approach.Leave a comment
